Descrizione del percorso
Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. The "Home of Lässig" is well known for it's gorgeous ski slopes in winter time and some of the most fun and longest Mountainbike Trails in summer time. But Gravel? Riding your Gravelbike in Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn (sorry for the long name, but it's as wide as the possibilities you will have during your holidays. 😉) is fantastic! Beautiful gravel road, high mountains with 360 degree panoramas and loads of alpine huts which provide the best out of Austrian local cusine. The route documented here is surely for experts in terms of the climbing you need to do BUT don't stop just here. This route contains a lot of the highlights of the area and even if you just pick tiny parts of it, you will have a day to remember!
Enough of getting you enchanted, let's dive right in and guide you through the "Home of Gravel"! We start off at the Tourism office in Saalbach Hinterglemm. The buses to reach Saalbach from the nearest train stations run regularly and it makes a perfect startpoint. Do you have any questions? Do you need anything? Just say hi to the welcoming people at the Tourism Office, they are always happy to help.
We recommend leaving early to enjoy the calm morning scenery riding through the town. It is so beautiful seeing it empty and still asleep. When we return there will be lots of people enjoying some food or just strolling through the alleys. After a few minutes you will leave the tarmac and continue on smooth gravel. The gradient is not too hard and slowly you make your way up until you reach the "Spielbergalm". We guarantee you will stare in awe at the mountain scenery around you! WOW. Take some pictures and then off we go into a fast descent. The gravel is great and fun to ride, but still mind the corners. 😉
The valley down offers gorgeous views and nice forest passages and streams next to the path. A highlight are definitely the mining cable cars which transport rocks. You will pass underneath them! It really feels like we time travelled to long forgotten times as we started to inhabit the alps and make use of all the treasures this harsh, but beautiful environment offers to us.
Afterwards we pass the valley around Hochfilzen and go on to Saalfelden-Leogang. Here we start climbing towards the big ascend of the day: The "Asitz". It is a beautiful, but hard climb, and it might seem it takes forever. But the views and the food on top make up for everything! Just take your time and take some breaks to enjoy the scenery. You're not in a race. 😉
Here you go coming up next to the lift. You made it with your own power! No lift required. Get some good rest with some delicious food and drinks on one of the alm restaurants around, before we climb the last steep bit to the top of Asitz. If you are keen take the short detour to the summit cross, look down towards the lake you just passed and take a deep breath. Isn't it beautiful with the "Loferer Steinberge" Range in the back?
Now its all downhill! Enjoy the way down back to Saalbach, again on perfect gravel. Need a short break? Still enough Alpine huts are waiting for you on the way down. Once we reached the valley we just cross the road and go onto the bike path and cycle back to the centre of Saalbach. Well done! 😊
Of course this is by far not all the region has to give! Take a look at the other official routes and explore Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn full on.
