Well, that is probably the most you will use your tiny biceps as a cyclist. Big flywheel, stable base and all the accessories means big and heavy boxes!
But don’t fear, take your time. The setup is easy and the process is designed to be easy and quick.
If you are still looking for the right setup to buy we have a guide for you to decide which trainer and accessories are for you here.
Make some space
Pick a spacious spot in your apartment, cellar or even garage?
You know the measurements of your trainer mat. This plus maybe half a meter in front and on the sides will be your minimum requirement.
You will also need access to electricity. So maybe don’t put your trainer on the opposite side of the power plug in the room just have a cable across it.
Assemble your trainer!
First spread out the mat, then put your trainer in place. Gently get it out of the box and follow the simple instructions to set it up.
Your most challenging part will be to install the cassette! If you bought a Justo 2 it comes with a cassette installed. Job done, congratulations!
If not you have to either replace the freehub if you want to use your trainer with an XD Driver or Micro Spline hub. Just unscrew the nut that holds the freehub in place and then pull the freehub out towards you and push the one you got from the ELITE store on and turn it until it falls in place. Screw the nut back on and continue installing your cassette.
For installing the cassette you will need a cassette tool and also a chainwhip.
Place the cassette on the freehub, aligning the little dents on the cassette inner with the freehub.
Wrap the chainwip around the cassette and check it’s secure. The Cassette will tighten in the direction you pedal. If you hear clicking noises, that’s the direction it loosens.
With the cassette tool, turn in the direction to tighten the cassette while countering with the chainwhip.
Make sure you tighten well and you can’t turn the tool any more!
Connect the trainer to the power outlet and follow the instructions to update and set wheel circumference in the app My E-Training. You can download it for your mobile phone or tablet.
Mount your bike on your ELITE Trainer
If you go on a roller or wheel-on-trainer, just put your bike on the rollers and start pedalling. For the wheel-on-trainer attach your rear wheel on the trainer following the instructions.
Direct mount can be a bit more complicated. Here we go:
In case you are using an ELITE RIZER the recommended method is to remove your front wheel first and mount the bike to the RIZER. Afterwards continue with the rear wheel and mount your bike on the trainer.
First determine the spacer adapter you need to mount your bike on the trainer. Slide them on your trainer before mounting the bike.
To mount your bike on the trainer first shift your rear deraillaeur into the smallest cog (the hardest gear) on your cassette. Remove your thru axle (or quick release mount) and remove the back wheel. Store it somewhere safe! Align the chain with the smallest cog on the cassette on the trainer.
Gently pull your derailleur back with one hand, while carefully sliding your bike down so it sits on the thru axle (or quick release) adapters.
For Thru Axle bikes slide in your thru axle and tighten it well. You might need to adjust the position of your bike if it is not completely straight. Check if your handlebar is perfectly straight if it doesn’t tighten.
For Quick release just tighten and close the handle well.
In the playlist below you can find all the steps necessary as a short video directly from ELITE.
If you are using a SQUARE Smart Indoor cycling frame, we will cover the setup in a separate article!
Get your accessories ready!
Build up the desk and position it comfortably in reach in front or next to your bike.
If you use the Elite Trainer Desk get your cables sorted and setup your laptop or iPad etc. clutter free.
Set up your fan and make sure it cools you nicely and the direction of the airflow is pointing at you.
Deposit the towel on the desk or on your handlebar, ready to relieve you of the sweat when shit hits the fan. (pun very much intended).
I like to have a specific heart rate monitor for my indoor trainer ready on my setup.
All setup? Give it a quick test and set up your favorite music playlist or a tv show, get ready for your ride!
