It may seem surprising, but actually it is obvious! The Giro d'Italia, one of the 3 legendary Grand Tours enters the 105th edition and for another year draws the cycling fans in it's spell! Now you will ask: the Giro is a professional race. It is about speed, a battle of material, eternally far away from recreational cyclists. And yet we (almost) all watch the pros every year, fever with our favorites, suffer with the unlucky ones and marvel at the impressive landscapes of the tour that leads through one of the most legendary countries for cyclists: Italy.
Italy means passion, the best espresso, the Mediterranean cuisine with pizza and pasta that cyclists love so much. While few want to/can compete with the performance of the pros, many will cherish the dream of riding one of the stages of the Giro d'Italia. These are now easily available on komoot and synced to your smartphone in seconds. This means that 25 million people worldwide can now follow the tracks of the pros. Komoot is the official route planner of RCS, the organizer of the Giro d'Italia, for events and 2022 and 2023. Thanks to the highlights function in komoot and numerous community features, cyclists can now easily experience the cultural offerings and highlights of the host regions!
All stages of the Giro d'Italia are available for download on komoot in this collection The 105th Giro d'Italia at komoot and for the first time ever, users have a comprehensive guide to the best cycling routes in all regions through which the race passes: Cycling Guide Giro d'Italia 2022
Over 50 routes of the Giro d'Italia for cycling fans in one click
The 105th edition of the Giro d'Italia starts on May 6 in Budapest and ends on May 29 in Verona. The peloton of professionals will contest 21 challenging stages over the course of three weeks, and some eight million cycling enthusiasts will travel to Italy to watch the race live. Many of them will get caught up in the spirit of the race and ride their own tours while they are there. Through the multi-year partnership with komoot, everyone who attends the Giro will be able to follow the experiences of the pros themselves. To do so, they can download and retrace the original routes of the race or re-plan them to suit their own ideas. The routes of all 21 stages of the Giro d'Italia will be made available in a dedicated profile on komoot and on the Giro d'Italia website . And for those who are looking for more relaxation and culture during their stay, more than 30 specially compiled tours are available for each region of the Giro.
Markus Hallermann, the managing director of komoot says about this:
Working with the Giro d'Italia fits perfectly with our mission to provide unique adventures for everyone. We work hard to constantly improve the cycling experience for our community and now all fans of the Giro can experience their race even more immersively. We are proud and excited to be part of such a historic event on the international stage of professional cycling.
Tours tested by cyclists in Italy
The collection of selected bike tours on komoot for the 105th Giro d'Italia is the result of a collaboration between the Italian tourism authority ENIT (Agenzia nazionale italiana del turismo), the transport infrastructure company ANAS (Azienda Nazionale Autonoma delle Strade) and komoot. The tours can be downloaded for offline navigation on smartphones or synchronized with GPS devices. All tours can be edited so that, for example, the starting point and destination can be adjusted as desired. With komoot Premium, you can also find places to stay along the way, view weather forecasts, and display your experiences on the tour in your own collections.
Our friend and kommot Ambassador Mattia de Marchi is also happy about the partnership:
Many male and female cyclists ride the same routes over and over again in order to always have the same conditions for effective training - just like I did in the past. What many of them don't know is that there are so many interesting routes right outside their front door that provide variety without reducing the training effect. Komoot has opened my eyes to this. Just like many others whose passion for cycling extends beyond their professional careers, komoot has helped me discover that there's a whole world of exciting adventures just waiting to be discovered - and that I can continue to live my love of cycling beyond the peloton.
What do you think about it? Are you going to go to the Giro this year or do you generally want to ride one or even a few of the tours? Is it the right step and will more recreational athletes be motivated by professional sports? We appreciate your feedback and can't wait to follow the Giro. As you know, we will even be there for our camp with Johnny Hoogerland at the 19th stage! đ
