Routenbeschreibung
A little taste of the KAT Bike route?
A demanding tour with over 800 meters of altitude on forest roads, or on top of that the thrill of the Wiegalmtrail? Here you decide. You will be happiest here on an e-mountain bike or even a non-motorized mountain bike. Really strong gravel bikers will also get their kicks on the excellent forest roads without the trail variant. By the way, if you want to test whether the KAT Bike Sport+ multi-day tour is something for you, you can try out a small part of the route here.
We start in tranquil Brixen im Thale where we find a perfect starting point with the train station, where also motorists can park. After a short flat warm up, we follow the Brixenbach into the valley of its origin.
From Brixen im Thale along the Brixenbach stream
At first the gradient is moderate and we can enjoy the view of the stream, small alpine and craft huts and the green meadows. Soon we cross a small wooden bridge over the Brixenbach and the forest road becomes steeper, winding uphill in many switchbacks.
Good rest on the Wiegalm
We cycle on and on uphill and are soon rewarded with a fantastic distant view of the Wilder Kaiser mountain range. Towards the top, the gradient becomes a little less steep and soon our well-deserved rest comes into view: the Wiegalm is a beautiful, small, traditional hut that offers us local food and drinks. Probably one of the best huts in the region. However, you have to watch out for one thing: The Wiegalm is closed in bad weather!
Wiegalmtrail or forest road?
After a nice break we get back on our bikes and ride downhill into the Spertental. We ride down two switchbacks and then we can see the turnoff to the Wiegalm trail. Experienced mountain bikers can alternatively take the trail down here if they wish. The Wiegalmtrail is a red marked nature trail. Especially the first part requires a little technical riding skills. You will be rewarded with a great flow trail through an alpine meadow. After the trail you follow the Aschauer Ache in the valley in the direction of Kirchberg, where you rejoin the original route.
The regular course of our tour continues straight ahead on the forest road further downhill, above the Leitner Alm. Over some serpentines we follow the perfectly graveled forest road downhill towards Kirchberg in Tirol.
Back to Brixen im Thale
Once we reach the bottom of the valley, we follow the Aschauer Ache river into the village. In the beautiful town of Kirchberg in Tirol you will find several places to stop and satisfy your hunger or exchange stories about your tour over a drink.
From Kirchberg in Tirol we follow the valley down towards Brixen im Thale back to our starting point.
